This letter is in response to Cory Hardy’s column, “Adventures from the wildest Homecoming BU has to offer,” (Oct. 20, pg. 7):
Thank you for bringing to my attention my own terrible flaw of constantly overlooking the rude and inconsiderate nature that unfortunately exists among my fellow peers. Until the column in Monday’s paper, I had forgotten that there are individuals in the world who appear to be above everyone else with their extreme criticism of those activities in which they themselves do not partake. Congratulations Cory Hardy, you have now become the epitome of ignorance to me and 21 of my teammates.
Just a word of advice for your future in the world of communications: if you’re going to criticize something, please become educated on the topic beforehand. First of all, the field hockey team does not play on Nickerson, so the “collegiate spirit in the air” that was “wafting off Nickerson across West Campus, as 3.2 fans coaxed the team along” was clearly as nonexistent as your knowledge. Second of all, the “wooden clubs” that we wield above our heads as we run around in skirts are not actually made of wood at all. Finally, if you’re spending $60 on a Sports Pass to watch our games, then you’re getting severely ripped off and someone else is thoroughly enjoying your stupidity.
When was the last time you devoted 24 hours a week (excluding hours on a crammed and boring bus) to anything of importance? Or given up an entire month of your summer after training all year long so that you could proudly represent your school?
Do you have any interests other than criticizing Boston University, because I feel your talents (if you want to call them that) could be put to a more positive and beneficial use elsewhere.
If you do not partake in or, at the very least, are knowledgeable of the extracurricular activities at Boston University, then you have no right to belittle them. The problem at Boston University isn’t the lack of Big Ten football tailgating. The problem is hypocritical people like you. You falsely believe that you have the right to bash the lack of school spirit, while it is people with your attitude who are responsible for fueling its flames.
Instead of sitting there criticizing all that is wrong at BU, why don’t you get up and actually do something about it? If watching field hockey and listening to the Marsh Chapel Choir is that much of a problem for you, then take your own advice: transfer.
