Is this really happening?
How can anyone have confidence in such a large institution of learning whose reputation has been growing so positively over the last several years when at a critical moment of transition that very transition seems to be being negated … on a whim? This is the way you plan for the future? This is the way you imbue confidence in the word, the promise (the contract?) of that great institution. That image has been belittled, its honor degraded. Who, great or not, would burn his bridges behind him if this is what can happen to the person offered the most prestigious, the most significant post at the university?
Saddam Hussein is not in hiding any longer he is apparently alive and well in Boston. If we have seen that the executive boards on Wall St. firms are mere rubber stamps, is BU’s of that same class?
It seems that either the offer to Mr. Goldin is sustained or the University must accept the responsibility of a great public dishonor and all the attendant consequences.
