UBurger, the new burger joint in the heart of Boston’s Kenmore Square, serves up classic hamburgers without freezers, microwaves or heat lamps. Advertised as the place with “All Burgers Ground In-House Daily,” UBurger prides itself on quality meat and fresh cooking procedures.
The burgers, which are tastier and thicker than those found at most fast food restaurants, are served quickly and cooked to order. With zero grams of trans fat, the fries could use some salt, but are otherwise tasty. Along with its hamburgers, UBurger also offers a variety of other items. You can pick up a salad or a Hot Chick, a spicy chicken sandwich. The Reese’s peanut butter cup frappe is sinfully delicious.
During dinnertime, UBurger’s owner circles the restaurant checking on his many customers. The regular waitstaff is equally as attentive. Although the restaurant seems as if it’s supposed to evoke a classic 1950s-soda shop feel, it’s somewhat institutional for a place with such a fresh spin on fast food.
The wood-topped tables and stainless steel walls make the seating area feel empty, although the hand-drawn chalkboard menu adds a little funkiness to the décor. But with dinner for two — burgers, fries and drinks — for under $15, UBurger stands as a pretty good deal for college students.
