Over the weekend, I found myself stuck inside an elevator in Shields, or ‘C,’ Tower of Warren Towers that had just fallen. I was stuck in between the fifth and sixth floors with no lights. By my best estimate, I would say I was in there for a half an hour (I did not have a watch). While accidents do happen, and not even the best kept machines will always do what they are intended to do, this seems like an ongoing problem here in Warren Towers.
It is worthy to note that the middle elevator in Fairfield, or ‘A,’ Tower has been out of order for over a week, and the lights have been going out regularly in the C Tower elevators. Although the elevators might meet inspection requirements and might be said to be safe, there are certain expectations that need to be met. There are three elevators in A Tower they should all work, not just two of them. The lights in the C Tower elevators should always be working. Being on 17A, I need to use the elevators to get up and down, and only two elevators working is a major inconvenience for me, especially when there is a line almost to the dining hall. As students and residents of Boston University and its dormitories, we should not settle for bare minimum I encourage all students to file maintenance requests and complaints when the elevators (or escalators, etc.) do not work.
