The following were taken from the Allston-Brighton Police crime logs.
At about 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 20, a 22-year-old male student was walking in front of 1315 Commonwealth Ave. when he said he observed three young men loitering on the sidewalk.
As the student passed the three suspects, who remain unknown, one of them allegedly shouted, ‘Give me your wallet.’ The same suspect reportedly grabbed the student by his legs, knocking him to the ground, while the other two began punching him. One of the suspects allegedly grabbed the victim’s wallet from his pocket, and all three of them fled down an alley off of Commonwealth Avenue, according to the report.
The victim stated that his wallet contained $35, a Visa credit card, a Fleet debit card and personal papers.
SCREWBALL ROBBERY At 10:35 p.m. on Nov. 21, Jerry Buford of 31 Crawford St. in Dorchester, was arrested for attempted robbery. Described as a black male wearing a navy hooded sweatshirt and black nylon pants, Buford was found sitting on the front steps at 1197 Commonwealth Ave. A brown glove covered one hand, and part of a screwdriver rested in his lap.
When asked where he lived, Buford allegedly replied that he did not live at the address, but that he was waiting for his wife there. Officers observed a brown glove on the sidewalk that matched the suspect’s glove, and the handle of the screwdriver that was in his lap. On the steps of the basement apartment was a ripped screen that had been pulled from the ground floor window.
The officers contacted a witness who positively identified the suspect as the man who had been at the ground floor window, trying to break into someone’s home.
The victim stated that his wallet contained $35, a Visa credit card, a Fleet debit card and personal papers.
RUDE AWAKENING A man with outstanding warrants from various courts, including one from Roxbury for home invasion and armed robbery, was apprehended Nov. 20 when Detective Kevin Shea received word of his residence.
Walter Niland, of 24 Royce Rd., Apt. B-1, was reportedly lying on his bed with his girlfriend, Shoshana Holtzblatt, in the basement apartment when Shea, along with fellow officers, arrived on location. The officers knocked on the door and announced their intentions. Holtzblatt allegedly opened the door partially, but did not allow the officers inside.
Police warned Holtzblatt there were several outstanding felony warrants for Niland and that he was observed resting on a bed minutes earlier. She reportedly told the officers that there was no one else in the apartment. After a lengthy, heated discussion with Holtzblatt, Niland came to the door.
When one of the officers approached Niland, he allegedly punched the officer in the face and kicked another in the leg. After a brief struggle, Niland was placed in handcuffs and taken into custody.
