I completely agree with Kevin Bryan’s letter to the editor Nov. 30 (“Students not to blame for ‘post-game revelry,'” page 9) except for one thing: James Grabowski was not a Northeastern University student, nor was he a student at any Boston area college. I say this simply because Northeastern frequently absorbs riot criticism like a sponge and I feel that we too are unfairly singled out in the process. James was killed by an alleged drunk driving Boston resident, and poor Victoria Snelgrove was killed by the police. Another issue that we frequently overlook is that we students are all too often the victims of Boston’s growing crime problem, something that the politicians like City Councilor-At-Large Stephen Murphy frequently overlook. The unsolved assaults on Mission Hill, the rampant shootings in Allston-Brighton and even on Huntington Avenue and Ruggles Street, and of course the new gang warfare problem on Columbus Avenue are issues that we students are not causing but are being victimized by. It’s about time the city came to our defense instead of blaming us for the problems of two years ago.
