Campus Crime Logs: Jan. 31 – Feb. 7

The following reports were taken from the Boston University Police Department’s crime logs from Jan. 31 – Feb. 7.

Suspicious person at 14 Buswell St.

On Jan. 31 at 7:58 a.m., a caller said they saw a 40-year-old white male in an orange hoodie going through packages across the street.

The party was a facilities employee.

Robbery in front of 700 Commonwealth Ave.

On Jan. 31 at 5:53 p.m., multiple callers reported a party possibly snatching a phone or a purse from a female.

BUPD units checked the area with Boston and MBTA police, but were unable to locate the suspect or the victim.

Larceny by false pretense at 273 Babcock St.

On Feb. 2, a student said he was being blackmailed on Instagram to send a person $10,000 or else the person would send the student’s face photoshopped with explicit photos to all of his friends. 

The incident occurred sometime between Jan. 27 and Feb. 2.

Suspicious person at Deerfield St. and Bay State Rd.

A caller said at 11:19 a.m. on Feb. 3 that a homeless man was going through a dumpster and taking pictures of documents. 

Attempt to commit crime at 5 Buswell St.

Shortly after midnight on Feb. 5, a caller reported that someone online was threatening to release a video of them unless the caller sends the person money. 

Shoplifting at 910 Commonwealth Ave. 

On Feb. 5 at 3:47 p.m., staff at the Barnes & Noble at Boston University reported a past shoplifting.

The incident took place on Feb. 4 between 4:19 p.m. and 4:31 p.m.

Suspicious person at 1079 Commonwealth Ave.

A caller reported being aggressively propositioned by a party sometime between 1 p.m. and 7:14 p.m. on Feb. 6.

Theft by False Pretenses at 112 Bay State Rd. 

On Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m., a caller reported that they were being blackmailed online.

The incident occurred sometime between Feb. 4 and Feb. 7.

Fire alarm at 700 Commonwealth Ave.

A fire alarm went off at 9:50 p.m. on Feb. 7, caused by a malfunctioning ice cream machine. BU’s Office of the Facilities Management and Planning, Boston Fire department and BU Environmental Health and Safety on-call were notified.
