Car Fire On Lenox

A car caught on fire on in front of Boston University Chancellor John Silber’s house at 10 Lenox Street at about 7:26 p.m. last night, according to Brookline police officials.

The Brookline Fire Department responded to numerous calls from neighbors, a spokesman said. The Boston Fire Department also responded.

The car was extinguished and towed after being “burned beyond recognition,” according to the fire department spokesman. He said the department did not know what caused the fire.

“It was just a car fire,” he said.

Holly Naylor, a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences, was walking to her home on Carleton Street when she saw the fire.

“The car was already totally up in flames,” she said. “It was like something out of a movie.”
