John Silber is Hated

John Silber is the most hated man on campus. If not hated than disliked. Every student, faculty member, and even a certain dean I recently spoke to have expressed dislike for the man who seems to run our school. He is not only insulting he is absurd. Anyone who says, “but he is so smart,” should realize that intelligence is worthless when your narrow-minded. I can’t believe a man who wants us to act like adults, publicly stated that the only reasons for students to be in the dorms together after midnight is to cause “fun and games.” God forbid we should be adult enough to decide where we can be when we want to be with a friend, study partner or god-forbid if your in SMG, a group member. John (to show him the same respect he shows us) thinks he is doing what is best for us when in reality he is artifically imposing his morality on us. And unfortunately for us he is still stuck in the 1920’s. Reading respones to Johnny-boy’s letter over the past few days I’ve realized that the only thing that ever brings this “BU Community” together is out of hatred for our feared (paid)former leader. I don’t want to repeat what hundreds of students have already said, so I point John and other administration to Grant Myers’ column this week. Answer those questions well and I’ll be satisfied. I would, however, like to mention that John suggested if we don’t like the policy we move off campus. Isn’t the school in the middle of a battle to keep upperclassmen on campus? Why does it always seem that to John upgrading a “second-tier” academic atmosphere means driving a wedge between the students, faculty, and administration.

PS. President Westling, as the man who is supposed to be our leader, I suggest you address this situation before it gets out of hand. I can already promise that you’ve got at least 2 graduating classes full of students who won’t be donating much money. I suggest you make some changes before you lose the trust of the underclassmen and incoming freshmen.
