The Boston University swimming and diving teams posted impressive victories last Saturday at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, N.Y., and two BU divers were each honored as America East Diver of the Week.’ After losing to Colgate University the week before, the women’s team (4-1) rebounded with a 200-100 win. The men’s team continued its undefeated streak with a 188-110 win over the Seawolves, improving to 5-0.
The men got off to a quick start with first and second-place finishes in the 200-medley relay. The winning team, which included freshman Justin Gilmartin, sophomore Kyle Ernst, sophomore Matt Rickett and freshman Jackson Hill, posted a time of 1:37.70.
Hill picked up his first individual victory in the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:47.15, while sophomore Bryon Kallert (54.63) and Gilmartin (54.90) followed up with 1-2 finishes in the 100-backstroke.
Ernst claimed an individual win of his own in the 100-breaststroke, finishing in 59.85. BU also won the 200-fly with a strong effort from sophomore Mark Nakanishi, who finished in 1:59.97.
In diving, senior Andre Watson won the one and three-meter dives with scores of 296.92 and 279.30, respectively. Watson earned AE Male Diver of the Week honors for his performance.
The women’s victory included a win in the 200-medley relay. Led by sophomore Maria McIntyre and followed by freshman Kristen Connors, junior Joanna Weinstein and senior Eve Kinsella, the relay team finished in 1:49.40. BU also took second place in the event, posting a time of 1:50.32.
The Terrier women also swept the 1000-freestyle. Junior Brigette O’Shaughnessy won the event with a time of 10:18.22, while sophomore Andrea Doersam finished second in 11:05.63 and junior Kristen Williams took third in 11:13.48. O’Shaughnessy also placed first in the 200-fly with a time of 2:10.55.
In diving, senior Tess Waresmith continued her dominance by leading a sweep of the one and three-meter events, garnering AE Female Diver of the Week accolades for the sixth consecutive week. Senior Alex Crerar finished second in both events for the Terriers, and sophomore Sarah Colton rounded out BU’s sweep in diving.
The teams’ next meet is this weekend’s BU Invitational at Competition Pool.
