Man, 24, stabbed to death on Harvard Avenue

A 24-year-old man was stabbed to death early Sunday morning on Harvard Avenue in Allston, Boston Police Department officials said.

An officer on duty noticed large crowd at the intersection of Brighton Avenue and Harvard Avenue at about 2:15 a.m., BPD spokesman Eddy Crispin said. The officer found an unconscious man on the ground in front of the Tedeschi Foodstop located at 157 Brighton Ave.

The victim was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.’

The victim has not been identified and Crispin said police do not know if he was affiliated with Boston University.

BPD arrested 23-year-old Corey Patterson of Dorchester as a suspect based on information provided by witnesses. Patterson was charged with accessory to murder after the fact, several counts of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest, according to the BPD news blog.

The incident marks the 43rd homicide of the year, according to the blog. The city had experienced 53 homicides by this time last year.

The Allston-Brighton area has a large BU student population, and the Harvard Avenue incident comes only a month after two students were robbed at knifepoint outside West Campus.

This version corrects an earlier version that incorrectly stated the time of the incident as 12:15 a.m.
