Brookline armed robbery suspects indicted, face trial as adults

Two juvenile suspects in Brookline armed robberies that occurred near Boston University will face trial as adults in superior court, after a Norfolk County grand jury indicted all three teenagers on Thursday in connection to the robberies.

Originally, only Taquari Milton, 17, of Roxbury, was indicted as an adult in district court. Milton was charged with three counts of armed robbery on Sept. 25, one count of armed robbery on Oct. 5 and one count of accessory after the fact on Oct. 5, according to a press release from the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office.

But the other two juveniles, who were indicted as youthful offenders, will be tried as adults at the superior court level, said Norfolk District Attorney spokesman David Traub.

One 15-year-old male from Dorchester is charged with three counts of armed robbery on Sept. 25 and one count of armed robbery on Oct. 5, indicted as a youthful offender, according to the release.

Another 16-year-old suspect from Roxbury, also a youthful offender, is charged with three counts of armed robbery on Sept. 25, one count of armed robbery on Oct. 5, and one count of accessory after the fact on Oct. 5.

“A grand jury of their peers indicted them, which brings the trial out of the Brookline District Court to the Superior Court level, where the judge could sentence them to state prison,” Traub said.

Milton and the suspect from Roxbury are being charged for one count of accessory after the fact, Traub said.

“They cannot be convicted of both armed robbery and accessory after the fact,” Traub said. “Should they be acquitted for either of the armed robbery charges, they could still have enough evidence to find them guilty with an accessory after the fact and be associated with the crime.”

No date has been set for their arraignments after indictment, according to the release.

Brookline Police Lt. Philip Harrington had no word on any possible suspects for the other two robberies that also shook the BU community on Sept. 23 and Oct. 9.

“As far as Brookline is concerned, we do not have any new information regarding the other robberies,” Harrington said.
