Biker struck and killed near Bay State Road

A bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle near Bay State Road Sunday afternoon, officials said.

Boston Police Department Officer James Kenneally said a car hit the pedestrian near Beacon Street and Charlesgate West at about 3:30 p.m.

The pedestrian, a female bicyclist in her early twenties, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Sunday BPD press release.

Bay State Road is currently shut down from Charlesgate West to Silber Way, with caution tape blocking off the street as officers investigate at the scene. The road’s sidewalks remain open, but no vehicular or pedestrian traffic is permitted on the street.

BPD officials with the Accident Reconstruction Team are currently investigating the incident, according to the release. The cause of the accident has yet to be identified.
