Men’s hockey drops overtime contest to BC in Beanpot final

The No. 7 Boston University men’s hockey team fell in the Beanpot Tournament championship game to No. 3 Boston College on Monday night at TD Garden.

It took overtime to decide what ultimately would be a 1-0 decision in favor of the Eagles (20-4-4, 11-1-4 Hockey East).

Neither team scored in the first period, though the Terriers (16-8-4, 9-4-3 Hockey East) were almost doubled up in shots through the first 20 minutes. BU tested Thatcher Demko 12 times while the Eagles rifled 23 shots on net, all of which senior Sean Maguire turned aside.

The second frame was a scoreless affair as well, with BC outshooting BU 9-8 and spending extended periods of time in the Terriers’ zone.

And the third didn’t see any goals either, though BU outshot the Eagles 9-6.

Then, 1:57 into the first overtime period, BC won it with a wrister from winger Alex Tuch in the high slot to secure the victory.

Maguire recorded 41 saves in the loss and Demko posted a 30-save shutout.
