Rounding up the tennis and golf performances of the week

TENNIS: 

Men: The Boston University men’s tennis team opened their 2019 season at the Bryant Invitational, where they faced off against the Bryant University Bulldogs and Bentley University. 

Senior Marc Sable and freshman Kirill Belov both posted records of 2-0 and eight other Terriers notched up at least once victory across the two days of the invitational. 

In the doubles matchup, the juniors duo of Owen Lu and David Bogatin posted a record of 2-1 which junior Ethan Kolsky and partner Belov matched in their games. 

The Terriers head to Yale next for the Ivy Plus Tournament that starts on Friday. 

Women: The Boston University women’s tennis team had a hugely successful start to their season, picking up four titles at the Quinnipiac Invitational in Connecticut. 

Junior and 2019 All-Patriot League honoree Lily Burchell had a stellar start to the season, winning the B Singles title. She also won the A Flight title alongside freshman and 2019 PL Rookie of the Year Shelly Yaloz. Freshman Erica Di Battista captured the A Flight title, brushing aside UConn in two straight set victories and defeating Army’s No. 2 singles player from last spring’s PL championship final along the way. The C Flight singles champion was Junior Katya Martens and along with doubles partner freshman Sofia Kostirko reached the doubles final in the B Flight with 

BU went a combined 26-6 (.813) with an impressive 17-3 mark in singles, with two of the three losses resulting from injury. 

The team is in action again at the Harvard Fall Classic that starts September 20. 

GOLF: 

The Boston University women’s golf team finished eighth at the Dartmouth Invitational, held Sept.14 through 15 at Hanover Country Club in New Hampshire. Freshman Kristen Min Ju Kim and sophomore Katerina Doleckova tied for 14th place overall, posting scores of 149 each. Freshman Hanako Kawasaki finished with a tally of 153 (77-76) and tied for 28th position. Juniors Zhangcheng Guo and Abby Parsons posted scores of 78 in each round. Junior Saeros Oskarsdottir scored 164 (85-79) and current Patriot League Golfer of the Week, junior Annie Sritragul finished with 165 (81-84)
