BPD: Allston attack gang related

A 21-year-old man was attacked in Allston near the corner of Gardner Street and Linden Street on Sunday night, according to police officials.

Officers who were patrolling near the intersection in unmarked police vehicles observed several men running away from the area and getting into two vehicles at about 1:55 a.m., said Boston Police Department spokesman Eddy Chrispin.

After investigating the scene, the officers found a victim covered from head to waist in blood.

The victim, as well as witnesses in the area, said the assailents had attacked him with a large wrench and a knife.

Although only one individual was physically harmed, Chrispin said that nearby witnesses were threatened and frightened by the suspects.

Chrispin said witnesses reported that a tall, thin black man, who was wearing a red T-shirt with a black "R' logo and a dark baseball cap, swung the wrench as a weapon and hit the victim several times.

Witnesses also said two young women fled with the suspects in their vehicles. They were described as tattooed and possibly Hispanic.

BPD officers sent a radio description of the suspects and their vehicles, one of which had a Rhode Island license plate, and BPD officers as well as Boston University Police Department officers pursued the suspects.

According to BUPD Sergeant Jeffery Burke, BUPD officers stopped the two vehicles shortly after 2 a.m. as they were driving inbound on Commonwealth Avenue. The first vehicle was stopped near 710 Comm. Ave. and the second near the intersection of Comm. Ave. and Pleasant Street.

Witnesses identified the suspects with "100 percent certainty," Chrispin said. After being read their Miranda rights, several of the suspects reportedly admitted to being members of the Bloods gang.

The two females accompanying the suspects were found in the two vehicles, along with a long silver wrench that was also positively identified as one of the attack weapons, Chrispin said.

The 10 detained suspects were arrested and taken to the District 14 station by both BUPD and BPD.

The victim, who had non-life threatening injuries, was taken to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for treatment

BPD is conducting the investigation.
