M. hockey 14th in poll

The Boston University men’s hockey team has been ranked 14th in the nation by the USCHO.com poll released Monday. The Terriers had also received the same ranking in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine preseason poll.

Boston College was again tabbed as the best team in the country after receiving 45 of the possible 50 votes in the USCHO poll. The Eagles defeated the University of Toronto 8-0 in preseason action Sunday. The Terriers won their own game against the Varsity Blues, 9-3, Saturday.

The University of Maine (7th) and University of New Hampshire (10th) rounded out the Hockey East teams ranked in the newest poll’s top 20. The University of Vermont just missed a ranking after receiving 105 points, just 22 behind No. 20 Colorado College. Northeastern University, Merrimack College and University of Massachusetts-Lowell also received votes.

Rounding out the poll’s top five were University of North Dakota, Miami University, St. Cloud State University and University of Michigan respectively.

The University of Wisconsin, which will face BU in Friday’s opening round of the Ice Breaker, was placed just ahead of its upcoming opponent, receiving the 13th spot in the poll. University of Notre Dame, one of the other four Ice Breaker participants, came in as the 17th best team in the nation.
