During a snowy gameday in upstate New York, the Boston University women’s lacrosse team lost their fourth consecutive game to the Colgate Raiders, 14-10.

“I think that our first quarter put us a little bit in the hole, and then I was happy with the way we battled in the second and third,” said Terrier (7-7, 2-5 Patriot League) head coach Lauren Morton. “Ultimately credit to [Colgate], they definitely took advantage of some good opportunities.”
After winning the first draw, the Raiders (8-6, 4-3 PL) turned their early control into a goal within the first minute of the game.
A minute later, the Raiders scored their second, keeping possession the entire time. Colgate’s dominant possession of the ball again led to their third goal four minutes later, with BU still waiting to get on the board.
Not long after, graduate student midfielder Kendall Simms granted the Terriers’ their first draw control of the game, scoring the first BU goal too.
Sophomore goalkeeper Natalie Aiosa had an incredible save a few minutes later, bringing the ball back to Terrier sticks, leading to the Terriers’ second goal, this time by junior midfielder Jayne Feeney.
Once BU was able to warm up, they were able to tie the game with just under six minutes left of the first quarter as junior midfielder Leah Hodgins’ found her first goal of the season.
That was until Colgate scored three straight goals, ending the first quarter up 6-3.
“I thought that we had some kind of casual turnovers and just some rush turnovers and not so much taking care of the ball,” said Morton.
Immediately into the second quarter, Raider midfielder Kendall Belanger and attack Ella Bishara scored back-to-back goals for Colgate’s largest lead of the day, 8-3.
A two-minute man-up opportunity brought BU back within four thanks to senior attack Hannah Tillier.
To start the second half, neither team scored for almost seven minutes, until junior midfielder Elle Stevenson and sophomore midfielder Tessa Geddes went back-to-back to bring the game within one, but the Raiders pulled ahead once again, scoring again before the end of the third quarter.
Though Feeney scored the first goal of the fourth quarter and Stevenson found her second of the game, Colgate put four more into the net before the clock hit double zeroes.
BU put up a solid performance in the middle quarters, but it was not enough to combat Colgate’s first quarter six-goal surge and slight 4-2 edge in the fourth.
With the win, the Raiders clinched a spot in the Patriot League women’s lacrosse tournament while the Terriers sit in last place.
“I think that we have some really great moments, some really great quarters,” Morton said. “I think we ultimately [have] to play the way we’re capable of playing, which takes just focused attention to detail and communication overall.”
BU looks to come back from this string of losses at American University Saturday at noon.
