Hockey East honors Corazzini at annual awards dinner

Although the Boston University hockey team fell short of a Hockey East championship this season, senior Captain Carl Corazzini still has a reason to celebrate.

Last night at the Hockey East annual awards dinner, Corazzini was named to the First Team Hockey East All-Stars, joining some of the most talented college hockey players in the Northeast.

“I was a little surprised about making First Team,” said Corazzini, who found out about the honor yesterday morning. “I thought I would make Second Team and that Anthony Aquino from Merrimack [College] would make it instead. I was shocked.”

It is a career that has included 117 points over four years. This season, Corazzini scored 16 goals and tallied 20 assists for a team-leading 36 points. During his junior year, Corazzini collected an impressive 42 points by scoring 22 goals and 20 assists.

“I played four years and I’ve had my highs and lows,” Corazzini said. “But this is just a great way to cap off the season.”

Joining Corazzini on the First Team were fellow forwards Brian Gionta, a Boston College senior, and Devin Rask, a Providence College sophomore. Defensively, the Eagles’ Bobby Allen and the University of Massachusetts at Lowell’s Ron Hainsey were handed First Team honors as defensemen, while the University of New Hampshire’s Ty Conklin garnered First Team goalkeeping honors.

Corazzini was the only player on this year’s Terrier squad to emerge with a trophy. Many anticipated freshman goalie Sean Fields, who finished the year with a 2.53 goals-against average, to be named to the All-Rookie Team. Instead, that honor went to Merrimack’s Joe Exter, a sophomore in his first year playing for Merrimack.

“I thought Sean had a chance,” Corazzini said. “But you never know. Sean has a lot of even better years ahead of him.”
