Michael Moffo’s Letter of Resignation

As of today — January 21, 2002 — I, Michael Moffo, hereby resign as President of the Boston University Student Union.

Henceforth, I relinquish the Office of the Presidency to Executive Vice President Zachary Coseglia. All resulting vacancies within the Student Union Executive Board will be filled by President Coseglia pending the approval of Carolyn Norris, Director of the Student Activities Office.

It is with great regret and a heavy heart that I announce this decision, which is the result of my personal academic negligence over the last semester. My personal priorities since assuming the Presidency have adversely effected my GPA and caused me to be placed on academic probation, and thus, ineligible to hold Student Union office. I mean to make it abundantly clear that this is not a decision made of my own free will. My resignation has been forced upon me by the administration of Boston University. It pains me to publicly admit my shortcomings that have caused this situation. However, it is equally important to me that the Student Union and the students of Boston University realize that they have not been abandoned by another student leader who did not feel that the Student Union was a worthwhile investment of time and energy. Rather, it was my own lack of foresight that has led the administration to strip me of the opportunity to serve any longer.

I have chosen not to challenge or appeal the decision and I pledge to continue my service to the Student Union and to the student community. I sincerely hope that the progress of this year’s Student Union will continue uninterrupted and unhindered. Student leadership has never been more stable and an optimistic vision for the future has never been more clear. As always, I have the utmost confidence in the individuals who will continue to make real progress toward improving student life at Boston University.

Michael Patrick Moffo Boston University, COM ’02
