Five former BU hockey players competed in the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City as members of the U.S. Olympic men’s hockey team. The team was victorious, earning the silver medal after falling to Canada in the final game. Herb Brooks, the coach of the 1980 U.S. “Miracle on Ice ” team, also coached this year’s team. Brooks played a video clip of Mike Eruzione’s 1980 game-winning shot during orientation to inspire this year’s team.
Chris Drury, a forward for the Terriers from 1994-’98. Drury helped the Terriers win the NCAA hockey title in ’95, two Hockey East tournament titles and four Beanpots. He was also a two-time First-Team All-American. Drury joined the NHL in ’98 and was named the NHL Rookie of the Year in ’99. Drury later won the 2001 NHL Stanley Cup as a member of the Colorado Avalanche.
Scott Young, a Terrier from 1986-88. Young is now a forward for the St. Louis Blues and previously played on the ’92 U.S. Olympic Team, winning a silver medal.
Tom Poti, a Terrier from 1996-98. He was a First-Team All-American defenseman at BU during the 1997-98 season. Poti joined the NHL in ’98 and now plays for the New York Rangers.
Tony Amonte, a Terrier from 1989-’91. He was inducted into the Beanpot Hall of Fame in ’95. Amonte was a member of the ’98 Olympic team. He is now the captain of the Chicago Black Hawks and a two-time NHL All-Star.
Keith Tkachuk, a Terrier during the 1990-91 season. That year, the Terriers won the Beanpot and the Hockey East title. Tkachuk was a member of the ’91 Hockey East All-Rookie team. He played on the ’92 and ’98 U.S. Olympic Teams. Tkachuk is now a forward for the St. Louis Blues.
