The Boston University field hockey team had a successful week. Not only did the Terriers win their first two games of the season, one of their own was named America East Player of the Week.
Junior forward Lindsey Domers, a player who before this year had scored only three goals in two complete seasons, broke out for three tallies in her first two games. Add an assist to the mix, and the formula amounts to a player of the week award.
“It’s an honor, and you like receiving things like that,” Domers said. “It makes you feel like you got something for your hard work. But this year, it’s just such a team award because everything that I do individually is built up by everyone else. Our team is just working so hard and it’s making it a lot easier to individually excel.”
In BU’s first game of the season against the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, a Domers goal at 49:11 was the difference in the 2-1 Terriers win. She also assisted in BU’s first goal.
The Terriers then faced Quinnipiac University this past Monday, and Domers again excelled. Her goal off a rebound with 1:56 left in the first half proved to be the game winner, as BU went on to a 7-1 blowout victory.
“Our team in general is more offensive this year; it’s been a lot easier to push, and our team is just really stepping up,” Domers said. “Having so many good players is making things a lot easier. I wanted this year to be a good year.
“I definitely thought that last year I wasn’t doing as much as I would have liked to help the team, so I was looking at this year to be a good year individually and for the team,” she added.
Domers thinks that this year’s team could do some damage once the postseason beings.
“I would like to keep scoring and to keep playing well and just to contribute in any way I can,” she said. “As a team, we’re taking each game at a time but we have huge expectations for this season. We’re looking for the conference championship, and we’re looking to go past that as well.”
