Silber shooting mouth off again

Rather than demonstrating that he is an administrative force who will make Boston University a top tier university, John Silber has simply shown the world that he is no more than a bitter old man with a big mouth.

To say that Sunday’s page one article in The Boston Globe was an embarrassment would be a drastic understatement. Our darling chancellor not only said that he wants to accept fewer female freshmen in the future to curb the raging hormones of the sexually charged men on campus, but he also said he wants to increase class size to become more economically efficient. I laugh at the notion that a man who runs his unprofessional-sounding mouth in front of a Boston Globe reporter is in any position whatsoever to be passing judgment on the sexuality of his student body.

Sure, some of Silber’s ignorant comments were funny, but others were just downright stupid. I am disgusted that the University I am so proud to attend is led by a man who wants to “clean the clock” of a department that provides thorough, one-on-one education to its students. In the article, Silber referred to a College of Communication class taught by a renowned professor that has only two students enrolled in it. Rather than using this class as an example of the quality personal education BU provides to its students, Silber asked, “What the hell are you doing?”

No, Johnny-boy, what the hell are you doing?

In this article, Silber single-handedly quantified our college education. He showed that the “Silber way” is one where an administration uses numbers and dollars to determine its next move while the students and their education go unnoticed.

Silber came off as a big-mouthed, ignorant, senile man in this article. He not only tarnished BU’s reputation further, but he painted a bleak future for the University. Rather than asking elderly professors to retire so the University can be more efficient, Silber (age 76) should pack up and retire himself. Now that would be progress!
