Silber isn’t being open-minded

Just so I can get this clear in my head…

John Silber’s rationale for disbanding the BU Academy’s Gay/Straight Alliance student group, relayed through Boston University spokesman Kevin Carleton as “the Academy has no need for such a group due to the open-mindedness of its students,” is flawed (“Silber cuts gay group,” Sept. 9, pg. 1).

How can Silber claim “open-mindedness” while taking away the students’ right to a vital forum necessary to nurture and explore ideas?

Shame on the University of Texas and its philosophy department for granting a degree to someone whose Orwellian logic makes as much sense as if Congress were to outlaw ACLU membership because there’s no need for such an organization since we have the Bill of Rights.
