feminism

I am writing in respnse to Mr. Levi’s article about equal rights and equal responsibilities. Whereas I do agree with him in most points, I do think that he does not have a clear idea of what feminism actually means.

My grandmother, Vera Bojadjieva-Fol was one of the founders and pioneers of the feminist movement. She was one of the organizers and participants in the First World Feminist congress. The definition of the feminist movements is as follows: “Equal job opportunities and equal payment”. Think about that. Nowhere do the feminists claim that they want men to stop being courteous – like stop opening doors, for example. When Bulgarians came to Europe in the 7th century AD they faught the Byzantine empire and won – the main reason being that the Byzantines were so shocked to see women fighting with swords. In a country like mine where men and women have had equal rights and responsibilites even B. C. I cannot help, but consider the American vision of feminism a little misunderstood. A woman being offended by a courtesy is no less offensive than a man deliberately not offering courtesy.

Yes, I do agree that in the case described the police officer should have arrested the two young women and they deserved to be kicked out of housing. However I think that Mr. Levy draws the wrong conclusions about feminism from this event.

And the statement about the female president just made me holler with laughter. Dear Mr. Levy, the female to be an American president would have bigger balls then most men put together and bigger brains as well. I do suspect that she might succesfully avoid the war instead of manly showing off with bombs.

I think I just was being stereotypical. God, I am sorry! The American visions seems to catch up with me! Alexandra Fol CFA 2002 617/359-2796 alexandrafol@yahoo.com
