Union leaders just blow smoke

It was somewhat disconcerting sitting down with the paper on Saturday morning and coming across an article describing the guest policy “change” as “worth the wait” (“Guest Policy changes announced,” Oct. 24, pg. 1). In it, the representative of our greater student body, Ethan Clay, was quoted as saying “Waiting all this time makes it all that much sweeter.” Unfortunately, the wait did nothing but postpone the obvious, as the guest policy adjustment did nothing to change students’ lifestyles and did everything to boost the Student Union’s over-inflated egos and pretentious resume(s). Simply put, four more hours of “responsibility time” does not in any way shape or form constitute a reason for any student to celebrate.

As I searched the BU directory to find Mr. Clay’s email, I came across his web page. In it, Clay paints a portrait of himself as a civic saint, including his volunteer work in Haiti, his position in Student Council during High School and, most notably, his mini-golf skills. Mr. Clay fails to point out that he has done nothing as Union president other than to bandstand and brown-nose administrators, all the while getting nothing done and misrepresenting the student body’s real concerns.

Mr. Clay’s pretentiousness at ethanclay.com is paralleled by his attitude toward the student body, as the Union accomplishes nothing real other than wasting paper and ink on the thousands of Daily Free Press papers that are printed every day.

I request that Mr. Clay and the rest of his slate step down and dissolve the current Student Union on the basis of general un-productiveness and misrepresentation of the student body. Please find another student body to dupe.
