Let’s all stop being politically correct

After reading Joey Korenman’s article (“Time to Stop Being Politically Correct”) I find myself a changed person. Why, yes, Joey, let’s all stop being politically correct! Let’s throw our American freedoms out the window. What a wonderful idea! How should we begin? Ah, I know, let’s start labeling every Muslim person we see as a terrorist. Then we can move on to calling every African American individual the N word, every Hispanic person a “wetback.” Isn’t that what you meant, Joey, when you said that “there are bad people in the world who just don’t deserve the same rights as us”? Oh, and then, we can drudge up those old WWII cartoons about ugly Japanese people and make mean jokes about Jews. But Joey, I have a question: when you say we should “trust our gut,” does that mean you want us to go after everyone we think is “wrong” and “evil” or do you specifically mean Muslims? Should we kill them all, bomb the whole Middle East, since, you know, you do say that we “have to get them first.” Allow me to share something with you, Mr. Korenman. I could go through your entire, nasty little piece and correct you sentence by sentence, since you obviously have not done your research. I suggest you take your own advice and head down to the Islamic Society of Boston University’s table in the GSU link. It’s Islamic Awareness Week, are you aware of that? Sadly, i don’t have enough time to enlighten you myself, but perhaps i can clarify some of your points for the readers. Then you can go on spouting your bigoted babble; we’ll see if anyone still believes you. If you really want to get into the whole “occupation” issue, you might want to notice that the Palestinians were already there when Israel was formed. I personally don’t think either side is in the right but at the moment, Joey, you forget to mention that there is mass murdering on the Israeli side, too. Or, you know, in the spirit of doing away with PC, we could just gloss over that in the history books the same way authors gloss over the destruction of the Native Americans. We could do that, Joey; we’re special that way. We’re so special, we add little disclaimers in our sentences to disguise what flaming racists we really are. “It is true that not all Muslims are terrorists,” we say, to make ourselves sound tolerant, but then we add, “but all terrorists are Muslim.” Hmm, Joey, I wonder if you’ve heard of a man named Slobadan Milosevic? No? He killed thousands upon thousands of people, you know. Oh, and there’s the “terrorists” in Northern Ireland, South American countries…in fact, there’s “terrorists” almost anywhere. Oh, and it was nice of you to add that you know Muslims who are “nice, decent people.” Because, you know, the Moroccan woman with a scarf on couldn’t possibly be nice or decent. She’s probably a terrorist. In fact, the baby she’s carrying is probably a terrorist-in-training. Oh, and next time you say you’re not going to quote the Qur’an, don’t paraphrase it incorrectly either. To condense a book, made up of thousands and thousands of words, into nine words “kill all those who don’t believe in Allah”…now, that just made me laugh. Did you, perhaps, take an Islamic Studies class on Qur’an, Joey? There is a line that says, “A party of the people of the Scripture [Jews and Christians] stand for the right, they recite the verses of God during the night, prostrating themselves in prayer…they are among the righteous” (Q 3:113-114). In fact, it says, “Wherewith Allah guides all those who seek His Good Pleasure to ways of peace” (Q 5:16). Islam, if I may say so, is perhaps the most tolerant religion of them all. The Qur’an encourages peace and Allah encourages acceptance of others. Those people who commit “terrorist” acts, Joey, those people aren’t Muslim in the true sense of the word. Oh, and CNN anchors? They’re far, far more biased than you think, Joey. They make people like you seem like toddlers banging on pots and pans to get attention.
