Stop the waste: don’t overheat Boston University

I have been a student since January 1995 and have not lived on campus until this semester but I have always found all buildings to be heated excessively. This is New England, even if we are experiencing global warming all the more reason to turn down the thermostats and save energy. Maybe students will be able to stay awake in class and it would also keep germs and bacteria at bay. Perhaps we could actually close our windows and wear our winter clothes instead of shorts and T-shirts.

I just called the Office of Rental Property Management for the fourth time to complain about the excessive heat in my building. I have yet to close my windows, which face the noisy alley, and must have my fan on to keep the room at a comfortable temperature. I am thinking about putting an air conditioner in the window to quiet the noise and lower the heat if I get no relief. What a waste.

What does it take in a city where people cannot afford to heat their homes and apartments? Why did a woman have to crawl into a clothing donation bin several weeks ago near Rosie’s Place and die because of the cold?

My ancestor, Isaac Rich, left a $1.5 million endowment for the education of the future generations of his family but he began selling oysters as a child to help support his mother and 11 older siblings after his father died. I am sure he would be appalled at the waste and excess. Perhaps BU could turn down the thermostats and donate the money saved on excessive heating to those in need.
