Unarmed man robs Mobil station

The Mobil gas station at 850 Commonwealth Ave. was robbed shortly before 7 p.m. last night. Police and Mobil employees said they were unsure how much money was stolen.

The robber, described as a 30-year-old white male of medium build with a shaven head, was unarmed, according to Sgt. Philip Harrington of the Brookline Police Department. However, the man did threaten to shoot the cashier, Harrington said.

The man asked to use the bathroom at the station, Harrington said, and then tried to ‘help himself to the register’ when the clerk stepped out of the convenience store to assist the employee pumping gas. The clerk went back into the store and stopped the robber after being threatened.

The robber escaped toward Beacon Street in a gray Chevrolet, Harrington said.
