For Boston University students attending the hockey game between BU and Boston College on Jan. 16th, the party afterward will be provided courtesy of the Student Union.
Last night, the Senate confirmed the pizza celebration that will occur after the game in the 1019 lounge by allocating $1,200 to the Student Union Senate Student Affairs Committee for the event.
According to VP of Student Affairs Carl Woog, the event is the first of its kind in recent BU history.
‘This is the first time in recent memory that Student Union is hosting an event after a sporting event,’ Woog said.
According to Woog, to ensure that no BC party crashers attempt to sabotage the post-game pizza gala, students attempting to enter the party will need to present their BU ID at the door.
Woog said the party is occurring mostly in response to the difficulties many students had in obtaining tickets for last month’s showdown against Boston College.
‘Student Union Senate Student Affairs Committee felt that following the debacle at last month’s BU/BC ticket sales, the Student Union should help spread some spirit and excitement following the game,’ he said.
The party, according to Woog, is also fulfilling a promise the ‘True’ slate made to the student body when running last April.
‘This event that has been in the works since last year’s campaign,’ he said. ‘It is the brainchild of the True slate; just another concept promised last April.’
Woog also said he believes the timing of the event will be an important head start for the Union next semester.
‘We felt that the January 16 BU/BC game was timely and appropriate and a great way to kick off the semester,’ he said.
During their committee reports, the Senate committees reviewed their accomplishments for the year and also announced some proposed actions for next semester.
The Safety Services committee will be compiling a list of proposed changes to campus, based on the observations made on their safety walk, which highlighted the unsafe areas on campus.
BUnited shuttle buses to Logan before Spring Break are also in the workings of the Student Affairs committee for next semester.
The newly created Information Committee is also well underway in creating a newsletter that it is attempting to mail out to parents sometime next semester.
At the end of the meeting, a presentation was made proposing a Mardi Gras style parade next April to celebrate the BUnited events occurring that month. The Union is still in the research and planning stages of this potential event.
