Story on advertiser unbiased

After reading both the article concerning Dunkin’ Donuts advertising and an April 7 editorial response to it, I felt that I should commend The Daily Free Press for its unbiased reporting (“Ahead of the class,” April 4, pg. 5; “Stuff faces with donuts, not ads,” April 7, pg. 8). I have been working in the newspaper business for two years, for two different papers, and I understand the role advertising plays. I was impressed by how The Daily Free Press wrote an article concerning a Dunkin’ Donuts advertising campaign that was not necessarily supporting the advertiser.

While I was at one paper, we published a letter to the editor concerning a local grocery store. The store’s owner reacted to our letter and terminated its contract a full page ad with us. I think The Daily Free Press should be applauded for not allowing its advertisers to affect its content.
