Students integral to CAS awards

I would like to submit a brief addendum to Ryan Bersani’s comprehensive article on the 2003 College of Arts and Sciences teaching and advising awards (“CAS professors recognized with teaching, advising awards,” April 23, pg. 4). After the department chairs nominate candidates for the teaching awards, a panel consisting of two associate deans, two to three professors and two to three students then meets, considers the materials submitted by the departments especially student evaluations of the nominees’ courses and recommends three winners to Dean Jeffrey Henderson. The dean values student opinions greatly for the teaching as well as advising awards, and we thank all the students who were involved in the process.

Alan Marscher Associate Dean, CAS
