Dean of Students plans to retire mid-July

Dean of Students and Boston University vice president W. Norman Johnson plans to retire on July 18, according to Associate Dean of Students Herbert Ross.

Ross said Johnson “has been here for 13 years after spending 32 years in the Navy. Now he wants to relax and spend time with his family.

“He will still be a part of the university community, though,” Ross continued.

Ross said he did not know who would replace Johnson or if the new dean would be in place by the start of the fall semester. However, Ross expressed confidence in the office of the dean of students to “operate effectively” without a dean if necessary.

Johnson joined the Navy in 1956 and achieved the rank of rear admiral in 1983, according to the BU Bridge.
