Expose the Truth

**I wish this to be anonymous**

The Student Union has no doubt seen more trauma than a teenage girl entering adolescence. Over the course of three weeks our government has become a toy of incredible treason. To attest this claim I wish to illustrate the main problems facing the leaders of our government and present possible solutions for the Senate to consider in revamping the system. First I will discuss the Executive Board and its potency on the Senate. Without a doubt President Carl Woog and Executive Vice-President Remie Ferreira have their hearts in the right place, but their actions over the summer negate their legitimacy. Just this Monday a writ of mandate was filed by Rowan Armor, Senate Vice-Chairman, against Woog and Ferreira. Armor’s action proves that Woog, Ferreira, Armor and Joel Fajardo have no future in working together without any infighting. The antipathy within the e-board will lead to nothing positive. In Monday’s Free Press article, Woog proposed the idea of dissolving the senate and the tribunal. Was this really Woog’s idea? Or is he really acting as Dean Kenneth Elmore’s tool? By dissolving the senate and the tribunal the e-board will be in total control and will do as they wish with our student government. Ironically, Ferreira and Woog do care about the senate’s opinion. Calling private meetings with select senators, having luncheons at GSU, offering enticing weekend parties, and constantly probing the senators, these two e-board members are calculatingly winning over the hearts of senate members. These manipulating powers of Woog and Ferreira encumber Joel Fajardo and Rowan Armor’s less conniving influence. But how can the senate feed into Woog’s eloquence and Ferreira’s endearing smile without stopping to realize that these leaders’ pretense is all B.S.? After only a weekend retreat and one week sworn into office, the Senate decided to forget their own judgment. They hastily sided with the e-board and agreed to back them up no matter what happened to the Student Union. Each senator has his/her own mind and must realize this before they side with Ferreira and Woog or with Fajardo and Armor. This is a call to all Senators: challenge the mainstream. Do not allow your opinions to be suffocated because the e-board’s favor is more glamorous. This is all a game to them. It may be perfectly reasonable to follow Ferreira and Woog, but before agreeing irrationally with Woog to dissolve the Senate you must tear away from the e-boards snug embrace. The Senate needs to be the basis of the government. What the student union needs is reliability in the office and objectivity of the union. We need a structure that will not change with every year and with each new e-board slate. Passing a new constitution and new by-laws each year is time consuming. The Senate, rather than concentrating on helping out the BU community meticulously bickers over the grammar of the by-laws. The senate meetings are overwhelmingly formal and starched, exuding unneeded pretentiousness. I propose the senate scrap the current governmental system and start over with a less formal and more productive government. I also propose that Woog, Ferreira, Fajardo, and Armor be removed from office so that the government can start doing work. Senate meetings are open to the public so come by and see what the real deal is. It’s up to the students to decide who should lead our government. Let’s act now.
