In one of the last letters to the editor a writer claimed that marriage was for the purpose of procreation. According to that incredibly narrow definition many legally sanctioned marriages that exist are invalid. I’m sorry to disappoint that previous writer but not all people who marry want kids and there are plenty of gay couples who are raising families. To deny the privilege of marriage to these couples only perpetuates their second class status and I would like to think that we are better people and a better country than that.
