Ancient film

In Jessica Hitch’s article, “Japanese silent art show quietly hits campus”, she refers to Midori Sawato as “still practicing the ancient Japanese art of silent film narration”. The Oxford English Dictionary suggests the current definition of ancient as “Which existed in, or belonged to, times long past, or early in the world’s history” The ancient Japanese art of silent film narration? Since when is film ancient? Is every Asian art now qualified as ancient? Looking forward to the ancient Japanese art of Hello Kitty, Hana Goldman UNI 2006
