Deval Patrick, the democratic gubernatorial candidate, has the right idea with his healthcare reform plans. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has set new trends in government for centuries, and Deval Patrick will clearly continue that progression by implementing one of the first and only universal healthcare programs in the country. It is appalling that 750,000 citizens of MA don’t have access to healthcare and even more appalling that the entire United States has about 43 million uninsured. Those without health insurance don’t just hurt themselves, but all of us by putting the strain on hospitals and doctors to make up for the costs, in turn increasing the cost of healthcare for us all. If Deval Patrick is given the opportunity to employ such a program we will begin to solve the problem of the uninsured. Should this state elect Patrick and put into action this policy, we can help guide the rest of the country toward a more progressive healthcare system, something that would benefit us all.
