Staff Edit: Sneaking into Tsai

This past Saturday, students packed into the Tsai Performance Center to hear Boston University’s most popular hip-hop group perform its latest show, “Elements,” some even finding a way to sneak in without a ticket. This made it difficult for students who had purchased tickets to find a seat, which then led to the Boston University Police Department going aisle-to-aisle checking who didn’t belong there.

Because of the people who snuck in, ticket-holders must have been frustrated that the show was delayed by an hour, and that they had to wait to find a seat in the large auditorium.

It is impressive that such a large number of students were dying to see Fusion perform, but no one should have foolishly snuck in without a purchased ticket, which only cost $8 in advance and $10 at the door.

It might have been wiser for organizers to plan the event in a space with a larger accommodation, as the event last year attracted a similar amount of students. Several other, larger venues such as Morse Auditorium, Case Gymnasium and Agganis Arena would have been able to handle the amount of students more efficiently, and at least have enough places for people to sit.

If organizers had better controlled entry into Tsai, ticket-evaders might have been less able to make their way inside, and ticket-holders would have found it easier to find a seat. As entry into the performance center is limited to two doors, it would not have been overwhelming for organizers to prevent people who didn’t belong there from entering.

At least once the show began, it was an enjoyable experience for the audience, but it would have been more enjoyable if police officers did not have to go around making sure everybody had purchased a legitimate ticket.
