Scooby in the mix of Brighton drug bust

The following reports were taken from the Allston-Brighton District D-14 crime logs from Sept. 3-9.

At 2 p.m. Sept. 7, an officer towing a vehicle on Faneuil Street in Brighton observed a white Hispanic male on a bicycle supporting a large canvas backpack while traveling at an alarming pace. The officer, aware of a string of burglaries in the neighborhood, followed the male from a distance before catching up to him and signaling him to pull over.

After exiting his cruiser and speaking with the suspect, the officer noticed the strong odor of unburned marijuana emanating from the large, overstuffed canvas backpack. The officer then asked the suspect if he possessed any narcotics. When the 39-year old man answered by requesting his lawyer, the officer called for backup.

The suspect was handcuffed and taken into custody. His backpack was seized, along with its contents, which included nearly $200, large zip lock bags, an assortment of marijuana – seven large bags, one small bag and one shrink-wrapped brick — and some sweets: Scooby Doo fruit snacks.

Law School Student in Need of Good Lawyer

Just before 11 p.m. on Sept. 7, several Brighton residents contacted the Boston Police Department complaining of noise disturbances on Lake Street. Officers who arrived at the scene discovered more than 100 partygoers drinking an assortment of beer and liquor inside the apartment.

Officers advised a group of males who resided at the location to end the party, but the group asserted they were all of-age Boston College Law School students. Eventually, the group agreed to eject their guests.

As neighbors thanked the officers for dissolving the loud party, one of the apartment residents began to protest the police presence. The 21-year old white male was later placed under arrest when officers were forced to reenter the house and clear the remaining 50 guests who had still not left.

The suspect remained disruptive at the station and caused unnecessary delays in the booking process until 12:20 a.m.

Sucker Punch

At 2 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, patrolling officers encountered a group of people crowded around an injured woman at the intersections of Harvard and Brighton avenues. The 21-year-old white female lay on the ground with injuries to her face and lip. Witnesses told officers a short, black male had punched the victim in the face before fleeing with an accomplice.

The officers soon identified the suspects in the center of small scrum on the corner of Commonwealth and Harvard avenues. When officers approached the two suspects, the men became hostile and refused to cooperate with police.

After witnesses confirmed the suspect who had punched the victim, officers arrested the 21-year-old male on counts of assault and battery and disturbing the peace.

Later, the victim identified her attacker before being treated at a nearby hospital.

Controversial Deep Dish

At approximately 3:30 a.m. Sept. 9 a bloody-faced white Hispanic male flagged down a passing officer to inform him that another male had punched him repeatedly in the face at Redneck’s restaurant on the corner of Harvard and Brighton avenues. The victim reported the suspect had entered the restaurant through a side door and asked for pizza. The victim, a restaurant employee, informed the suspect that only one pepperoni pizza was available for $10.

According to the employee, the suspect left to get money, quickly returned and claimed $10 was too expensive. The victim said the suspect then punched the employee three or four times in the face. The suspect, who had fled in a car, was soon identified by officers based on the victim’s description of the vehicle.

After officers pulled the car over, the vehicle’s four occupants explained their account of the situation, never once mentioning the restaurant. After the officer recounted the victim’s story, the front passenger said the employee struck another passenger in the car. The passenger identified himself before explaining the employee had pushed him out the door and hit him with a stick.

Despite his attempt to show the officer an abrasion on his shoulder, no wounds were found on the suspect’s body, though blood was found on his fist. At last, the suspect stated he punched the employee in the face.

The suspect was charged with assault and battery.
