The senior forward earned America East Player of the Week honors Monday after leading the No. 19 field hockey team to its fifth straight win. In the Terriers’ 3-0 road victory over the No. 15 University of Virginia last Friday, Hamada played a part in each goal by assisting on the first before scoring twice in the second half.
Halfway through the season, Hamada ranks third on the team with 12 points, including five goals and two assists. The Escondido, Calif. native had her best season last year, when she excelled both on and off the field. As a junior, she was named to the America East Fall Academic Honor Roll for the third time and the NFHCA Northeast All-Region Second Team. Hamada appeared in every game during her junior season, finishing as BU’s second-leading scorer with seven goals and eight assists.
Hamada has had a penchant for clutch performances. Besides leading BU to an upset victory last week, she scored the only goal in last year’s America East Tournament semifinal before notching a goal and an assist in the conference championship to earn a spot on the All-Tournament team.
Neil Hlavaty
The junior midfielder was named America East Player of the Week after netting goals in each of BU’s wins over the University of Central Florida and the University of Rhode Island last week. Hlavaty’s goal against UCF came at 45:49 to lead the Terriers to a 3-2 win at Nickerson Field. Playing URI four days later, Hlavaty scored at 44:35 to put the game away before the second half.
The goals were the first of the season for Hlavaty, who seven points is tied for the team lead. He also leads the Terriers with three assists. The Lombard, Ill. native was selected to the All-American East First Team in his sophomore year after netting four goals — three game-winners — and two assists, ranking third on the Terriers in points and goals. Hlavaty was the only freshman to start in 18 games in 2005, when he was selected to the America East All-Rookie Team.
The College of Arts and Sciences junior has trained with Barcelona FC, the Chicago Fire and Sabedell. He also captained the Chicago Fire’s Professional Development League team last summer.
Janie Reilly
The redshirt freshman goalkeeper has been on fire this season, allowing only two goals in five games. Reilly turned in her best performances last week, earning America East Co-Rookie of the Week honors Monday. In BU’s game at Brown University last Wednesday, Reilly earned her second career shutout, blanking the Bears’ offense in a 1-0 Terrier win. She continued her dominance Friday against the University of Minnesota, collecting six saves against in a 1-1 tie. Reilly finished the week with 11 saves and a 0.45 goals-against average.
The Florida native is currently 3-1-1 on the season, boasting the best GAA (0.38) and save percentage (.917) in the conference. Nationally, Reilly ranks 14th in save percentage and 16th in GAA.
Along with junior Lauren Stewart, Reilly has backstopped a defense that allows only 0.72 goals per game.
Reilly played high school soccer at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, where she won state titles in 2004 – when the school was ranked first in the country – and 2005. A four-year starter, she posted a 0.00 GAA as a sophomore and set the school record for shutouts as a senior, with 22.
