Seniors are supposed to be leaders. They are supposed to keep their team doing what it needs to do. And they are supposed to produce. Pam Spuehler most certainly does all that.
With 19 points this season, on six goals and seven assists, Spuehler is setting the Terrier field hockey standard. Sure, Sarah Shute has more goals (seven), but Spuehler, even if the assist isn’t hers, always has a hand in the team’s points. She’s scored those six goals on just 13 shots on goal, good for an impressive .722 goal percentage, topped only by Hayley Hamada (.737).
Those totals are far surpassing Spuehler’s previous season highs (five goals, seven assists her sophomore year), with ten games left to go.
It’s not like the Terrier captain is doing this in garbage time, either. The Boston University field hockey team (8-2) is currently ranked 14th in the nation, and one of Spuehler’s goals was the game-winner at the UMass-Amherst. She has also set a single-game career high, scoring two goals and dishing three assists at Dartmouth College on Sept.16.
The America East conference has done its part in recognizing Spuehler’s performance, naming her the America East Co-Player of the Week on Sept. 17 – the third time she has been awarded that honor.
