LETTER: Laptop security is a personal, not university, responsibility

In regards to Isaac Betesh’s letter to the editor, “BU should stress laptop security,” (Nov. 8, p. 5), we feel that students have a personal responsibility for keeping their laptops protected, and it should not become the university’s job to police petty theft. While Betesh not only blames the university for laptop theft that occurred off campus, in Allston, he goes as far as to blame the university for his lack of entrepreneurial success, admitting to a personal motive for education about laptop theft. He says that he is “still trying to sell the locks that he bought a year [ago].” Betesh, who is unable to sell laptop locks in a time of rampant laptop theft, should take a class in business rather than blame the university for his problems.
