BU student robbed at gunpoint on Beacon St.

A Boston University sophomore was robbed at gunpoint on Beacon Street as she walked toward Kenmore Square early Sunday morning.

The student, a Daily Free Press reporter who wished to remain anonymous, said a black male pointed a handgun at her face and stole her purse near the Art Institute of Boston around 2:30 a.m as she walked home.

The victim said she ran to Hotel Buckminster afterward to call police. The Boston Police Department responded within minutes and took a report of the incident, she said.

The victim said she passed the man as he was pretending to tie his shoelace. She said she then heard him running toward her and turned to face him as he ran up behind her with his gun drawn, demanding she give him her purse.

After taking the purse, the man ran toward South Campus and jumped into a waiting car, she said. The victim said she chased him for a few seconds until she saw him jump into the old, burgundy SUV driven by a Hispanic woman. She said she had seen the car pass her moments before.

The victim said the man wore a hood and had his face covered.

The purse contained her identification cards, a debit card, her cellphone and keys, but no cash, she said. Two charges were made on her debit card within an hour of the robbery — one at a 7-Eleven in Cambridge and the second at a Hess gas station, she said.

The BPD stopped a car matching the description of the vehicle less than 20 minutes after the incident, but the victim said it was not the same SUV.
