While everyone else was watching the Academy Awards Sunday night, we here at the ‘ol Free Press decided to host our own version of the Oscars (with conveniently corresponding categories) and award deserving individuals and groups here at Boston University and elsewhere (We don’t have a working TV, so we have to make our own fun.)’ After spending hours selecting winners and handcrafting statuettes from shredded past FreePs papier -marched with our own tears and molded into the shape of a unicorn’s horn, complete with headband for ease of wear. Without further ado, we present to you the 2009 ‘Bangies!
Best Musical Score: The Buswell Street fire alarms, so melodious and soothing that some residents slept right through them.
Best Animated Film: BU women’s basketball coach Kelly Greenberg on the sidelines at every game.
Best Costume Design: The Boston Babydolls. We liked the tassels! Bow chicka yeah yeah!
Best Actor . . . or maybe Actress: Jon Jonsson, in ‘Trudasketsinn.’
Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger . . . we don’t want to be the first jerks to vote against him.
Best Live Action Short Film: New York University’s short-lived dining hall takeover crisis, although it wasn’t as dramatic as it sounds.
Best Original Screenplay: Matt Seidel’s scripted, yet forceful apologies to Union and Daily Free Press readers.
The Daily Free Press won an award too, but it was one of those weird’ ‘ ‘ science ones that gets announced over a Tuesday luncheon, for achievement in cooling systems or nannying or whatever.’ Oh well, it’s an award, and we’re still going to brag about it.
