Boston Mayor Thomas Menino will officially announce his fifth candidacy in the upcoming mayoral race Wednesday, an anonymous member of Menino’s staff told The Boston Globe Tuesday night.
There has been much speculation in the past weeks about the mayor’s ambiguous position in the race. Despite consistently denying official announcements of his candidacy, he was spotted Monday shooting an alleged campaign advertisement on Sturges Road in West Roxbury, according to The Boston Herald.
A recently hired employee, Emily Nowlin, introduced herself as his campaign manager, and the headquarters he rented across from City Hall in February have been seemingly functioning as campaign headquarters, The Boston Globe reported.
Though his intention to join businessman Kevin McCrea and Councilors-At-Large Michael Flaherty and Sam Yoon in the race may not come as a surprise, Menino plans to maximize publicity for the event, the anonymous source told the Boston Globe. Following the announcement at Digitas, a downtown Boston company, two rallies will take place in Roxbury and Roslindale, according to The Boston Globe.
The mayor, expected to launch a campaign website, will run under the slogan ‘Moving Boston forward,’ the source said.
