Mike Bavis, entering his 12th season as a member of the Boston University men’s hockey team’s coaching staff, has been promoted to associate head coach, BU coach Jack Parker announced Tuesday.
‘Mike has been a dedicated assistant for more than a decade and took great pride in helping his alma mater earn another national championship,’ Parker said in a statement. ‘During his time here, he has recruited some great players to our program and coached others to become great players.’
Additionally, BU alumnus Buddy Powers (’75) ‘-‘- and his 22 years of collegiate coaching experience ‘-‘- will rejoin the program as an assistant coach. Powers spent 14 years as a head coach at Bowling Green State University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
‘For Buddy, it’s kind of come full circle, and I’m certainly looking forward to having another former player return to BU,’ Parker said. ‘I think highly of him as both a coach and as a person, and his head-coaching experience in two of the nation’s best conferences (CCHA, ECACHL) speaks for itself.’
The moves follow the departure of former associate head coach David Quinn, who was recently hired as the head coach of the American Hockey League’s Lake Erie Monsters.
Bavis, Parker and Powers each have connections deeper than their time at BU, as all three are graduates of Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury.
