After reading your article, ‘Student performers pay tribute to Michael Jackson,’ that ran on Oct. 5th, I was astounded by the lack of research and fact checking. The fact that WTBU, a co-sponsor and major planner of the concert, was not mentioned until the fifth paragraph of the article is pathetic. Additionally, that paragraph still failed to note that WTBU and BU Central hosted the show as a joint effort. Instead BU Central is given sole credit when the first sentence states, ‘Paying homage to the man and the legend, BU Central hosted a tribute show. . .’ Evidence of the collaboration is clearly found on all the posters and fliers for the show, which exemplifies a true lack of research and fact checking. This is a huge mistake.’
To misunderstand who is hosting a show in an article that runs on the front page of a newspaper is unacceptable. It really is an unfortunate situation, especially since in the past couple of years we have really begun to build bridges between WTBU and The Daily Free Press. Coincidentally, this is not the first time an article written by The Free Press has contained incorrect facts about an organization of which I am a part. In the future, The Free Press should make a greater effort to be sure their facts are straight, especially in articles running on the front page.
