On Monday, junior forward John Holland of the Boston University men’s basketball team was named the America East Player of the Week for his performances against Binghamton University last Wednesday and the University of Delaware this past Saturday.
The Bronx native scored 20 points and grabbed three rebounds in the Terriers’ 93-51 rout of the Bearcats. On Saturday, Holland tallied a career-high 43 points &- the fifth most points ever netted by a Terrier in a single game &- to lead his team to a 78-65 nonconference victory over the Blue Hens.
“I was just trying to win, you know?” Holland said of his mindset during the Delaware game. “Delaware’s a good team. They play hard. I was just definitely trying to get that win.”
O’Brien: rebounding machine
Last Wednesday against the Bearcats, sophomore forward Jake O’Brien poured in 15 points and snagged 11 boards, recording his sixth career double-double in BU’s 93-51 win over Binghamton at Agganis Arena.
But O’Brien still isn’t satisfied with his improvement in the rebounding department &- he wants to play at a more consistent level on the offensive and defensive glasses.
“One of my roles on this team is to rebound,” O’Brien said. “I need to rebound the ball. It’s something [BU] coach [Patrick Chambers] has really been preaching to me. It’s something I’m really trying to get after. . .I’m just trying to do it on a nightly basis.”
