Reported robbery attempt across from GSU prompts alert

Boston University issued an emergency alert this morning informing students of a robbery attempt by the Carlton St. Bridge on Commonwealth Avenue on Wednesday.

At 4:30 a.m. a BU student reported that a female, who was following her in an older model gray sedan, got out of the vehicle and demanded the victim’s wallet.

The victim fled to an area by the George Sherman Union and called the police, according to the email.

BUPD and the Boston Police Department checked the area but no suspects were found.

However, in the email, BUPD Chief Thomas Robbins advised students to stay safe by being aware of their surroundings, travel in groups, use BU’s escort security service, protect personal belongings and report suspicious persons and activity to BUPD.

“Together we share the responsibility for maintaining a safe campus environment,” Robbins said in the email. “Each one of us can improve our community’s welfare by reporting crime and unsafe conditions, and by helping others.”
