BFD responds to ‘very small’ electrical fire in CAS

Firefighters responded to an electrical fire in the basement of the College of Arts and Sciences building on Sunday at 5:45 p.m., the Boston Fire Department said.

The fire, described as "very small," was in the electrical room of the basement, said Steve MacDonald, a BFD spokesman. It was caused by a malfunctioning electrical panel, although the department said the reason for the malfunction was unclear.

There were no injuries, MacDonald said. The fire department remained at the scene for about an hour. Ladders were deployed to the roof as standard operating procedure to ensure that the building was properly vented, a firefighter outside of CAS said.
